Upcyx is Upcycling-X
Upcycling is the future beyond recycling. We specialize in conversion technologies and processes that turn waste into new materials and products of higher value. The “X” stands for both what goes into our thinktank and materials lab and what comes out of it.
The “X” also represents what is possible, the knot that binds and combines materials to convert them into something better. We even converted “Upcycling-X” into a shorter, more letter-efficient form: Upcyx (pronounced: “up-six”).
Hemp Heritage®
Hemp Heritage® premium quality paper is comprised of 25% hemp and 75% post-consumer pulp. No dyes or bleaches are used, and the natural colour of the paper is complemented by tiny flecks representing the hemp fibers, giving the paper an organic look. The paper is chlorine-free, acid-free and archival quality.
Hemp Heritage is available in 4 weights, 60# & 80# text and 70# & 110# cover.
The historical hemp plant holds great promise as a renewable, tree-free source of fiber, which can help stop the radical destruction of the earth’s remaining forests. The hemp paper is made in the United States at a mill powered by hydroelectric power, saving millions of barrels of fossil fuels.

Upcyx is Unwasting
We are out to trash the very idea of waste. If we can render waste into wonder and reshape how the world consumes, there will be no waste (and no trash to take out).
We see a future where our core design approach is to eliminate waste from the life cycle of every product (and package). We’re starting with paper and packaging because the world uses a lot of it.
Upcyx was founded by Christoph Bruehl and Wayne Jackson. They’re both experienced engineers with big hearts and bold vision.

Packaging Products
We’re developing upcycled primary packaging products (containers, jars, tubes) in addition to the paper secondary packaging (folding carton boxes). There’s a growing demand for hemp-based sustainable packaging solutions to support specialty product packaging. Our lab specializes in hemp fibre and hemp biocomposites – bioplastics.
The resin will be available in the form of a filament to be used in 3D printers for prototypes or small quantities. Pellets are also in development for injection moulding of larger quantities. These will all be locally sourced.
