Walking his golden retriever Bailey, our CEO Christoph Bruehl kept seeing the same thing on the path: discarded plastic pre-roll tubes. It became a daily reminder of why Upcyx exists.
Licensed cannabis producers create two waste problems at once. Indoor growing leaves large amounts of stems, stalks and leaves that mostly go to landfill, and the finished product ships in single-use plastic tubes, jars and bottles.
The Cannabis Waste Upcycling Program
We work with licensed producers across Canada to collect that plant waste and turn it into a composite material that can be made back into cannabis packaging. The producer's waste becomes the producer's packaging, and the packaging is designed to compost instead of lingering as litter.
We may not be able to stop people from dropping their pre-roll tubes, but we can make sure what they drop goes back to the earth.
If you are a licensed producer with plant waste heading to landfill, talk to us or email hello@upcyx.com.
